Effective Marketing Methods for Small Business Owners (Part I)

Small businesses are in a fight for their survival. With the government taking a bigger chunk of your earnings and more competition than ever before, business owners need to use more creative ways to market their services and grow their revenue. The good news is that in today’s world, there are numerous ways (both online and offline) for small businesspeople to promote themselves.

Attend Local Chamber of Commerce Meetings: In most localities, there are regular events at either the Chamber of Commerce or other local business groups. These meetings are a great way to network with others in the business world in a relaxed setting where you can speak positively about your company and what you have to offer.

This can be particularly effective if you are in a field where you sell your services to other businesses. But even if your business is consumer-oriented, it always helps to establish contacts with people in related businesses. For example, if you are a mortgage broker, it is beneficial to form relationships with realtors, title companies, etc.

Go to Industry Trade Shows: Many business owners believe that trade shows are only good for promoting a new product. And if you do not have something to promote, there is no reason to show up. But if there is a trade show in your industry and it is near your location, you should make it a point to attend. You never know whom you will meet and the relationships you will establish.

Get Involved With Local Charity Events: Sponsoring a local charity or just being involved with it in some way is an effective branding technique that keeps your name out there in the public. Of course, this should not be your primary motivation. After all, the main purpose is to promote a good cause that is important to you and your community. However, having your name associated with the charity is also good for business.
